Last week was a busy one for our founder, Sam Gaskell!
Flying the flag for the next generation, Sam was asked to appear on a panel at social enterprise, Next Tech Girls’ Next Tech Fest event in London on the 21st August, where she sat alongside a panel of three other female founders and CEOs, highlighting her career journey and answering questions from the 50-strong audience of girls and young women just entering the industry.
On the same day, Sam also featured on the panel of SheCanCode’s monthly webinar on the topic: ‘Women championing Women: Why & how to lift as you climb?’. The webinar, which was attended by 60 people, shined a light on the importance of helping each other on the way up and practical strategies and advice for women in tech to implement today.
Commenting on the events Sam said: “It was an honour to be asked to sit on the panel for Next Tech Girls and SheCanCode - both events were an amazing chance for women of all ages and roles in tech to come together and discuss not only the challenges but also the opportunities working in the sector can bring.
“These things simply did not exist early in my career which only fuels me further to be a voice and presence for other women seeking inspiration and guidance. I’d like to personally thank Emily Hall-Strutt and Gayle Thompson-Igwebike at Next Tech Girls and Kayleigh Bateman and Alison Simpson at SheCanCode for the opportunity to share my story - their work is inspiring thousands of women in the UK and will be critical to shaping and growing female presence in STEM roles.”
Emily Hall-Strutt, Director at Next Tech Girls added: “This year’s Next Tech Fest was an overwhelming success with around 300 aspiring women in tech coming together to connect with and learn from industry role models. Having leaders like Sam take to the stage to share their journey adds to the impact and value of the event. Her story was inspiring, her answers informative and her passion infectious!”
Next Tech Girls looks to inspire its almost 10,000-strong community of young women through in-person and online events, with the hope of inspiring and empowering the next generation.
Meanwhile, SheCanCode is a collaborative community of women, working together to tackle the tech gender pay gap, putting on monthly webinars and events. This month’s webinar featured Hazel Elms, Sales Manager, Karren Brady’s Women in Business Expo; Natalie Whittlesey, Director of C-Tech Engagement, The IN Group and Frankie Oakeshott, Senior Director of Solution Engineering, Workiva, alongside Sam.
SheCanCode, Content Director Kayleigh Bateman concluded: “Our monthly community events are always a key date in the calendar for our members and this month was no different. It was fantastic to have Sam on the panel, she was key to what was a really uplifting and inspiring webinar!”
